You may use this transaction to renew your South Carolina credential.
You can purchase a REAL ID credential through this transaction. In order to purchase your REAL ID credential online, the SCDMV must have all required documents on file in addition to the item listed below.
- You have a valid SC license.
- You can pay with a valid card.
- You are a US Citizen.
- Your license has not expired for more than 9 months.
- You did not renew your license by mail the last time you renewed.
- For a driver license or beginner permit your driving privileges are not suspended.
- You are not a convicted violent offender.
- You have not had five points or more against your driving record in the past two years.
- You do not have a Conditional or Special Restricted license.
- Your social security number and name associated with that number matches.
- Class M - Motorcycle beginner permit not eligible
- Commercial License and Learners permit not eligible
- ID has to be within 12 months of expiration to renew
- You must have a valid vision examination submitted electronically to the SCDMV from an SC-licensed eye care professional.
If the required documents are not on file, you can still renew your license, but you will receive a card that says “Not for Federal Identification.” This card can be used for air travel and access to federal buildings and military installations until May 7, 2025.
