WHO CAN RENEW

This transaction only allows for a standard renewal (renewing your license and existing plates + purchasing new plates) for the following license types:

  • Dealer (Retail)
  • Wholesale Only
  • Wholesale Auction
  • Recreational Vehicle
  • Motorcycle Only
  • Motorcycle Wholesale

INELIGIBLE CONDITIONS FOR RENEWING

A dealer cannot renew under the following license statuses:

  • Expired (over 90 days)
  • Suspended
  • Canceled
  • Pending
  • Revoked
  • Rejected
Dealers renewing in conjunction with one of the below cannot renew online. The dealer must submit their renewal application via mail to the Dealer License Unit:

  • Renewal + Address Change
  • Renewal + Ownership Change
  • Renewal + Dealership Name Change
  • Renewal + Category (License Type) Change

NATIONAL CRIMINAL BACKGROUND REPORT

To renew your license, the National Criminal Background Report must be completed. Note: If you choose to proceed to renew and come to the Background Report section of the renewal process, you will not be allowed to proceed with your renewal if one or all the owners' Background Report(s) are either pending completion or has not been completed at all.

Also, if the result of your background report returns with a “Positive” indicator and it is determined your report meets any of the disqualifying convictions, per SC Code of Law 56-14-70, 56-15-350, 56-16-180, or 56-37-80 your dealer's license may be subject to revocation and the Dealer License Unit will contact you for the next steps.

PURCHASING NEW PLATES

New plates may be purchased with your renewal based on the total sales volume of your soon-to-end licensing period. Please prepare to receive your new plate(s) and registration card(s) in the mail within 7 - 15 business days, which will be mailed separate from your license, decal(s) and registration card(s), if renewing existing plates.

PAYMENT/FEE NOTIFICATION

Your online payment will be processed by SC.GOV, the state's official Web portal. The payment will include fees, charged by SC.GOV, that are used to develop, maintain, enhance, and expand the service offerings of the state's portal.

Access to the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles Electronic Dealer Renewal Process Computer System (EDRP) is intended for authorized use only. The EDRP is the property of the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV).

TIME LIMITATION WHEN INACTIVE

Please prepare to have all information readily available as the system times out in 20 minutes if no activity is detectedShould you need to halt your application for any reason, be sure to click the "Save My Work" button as you have 30 calendar days to complete your renewal application. If you return to renew on or after the 31st day, you will be required to start your renewal application over.
