Dealership Name or Address Change
Name Change Requirements
If you're interested in changing the name on a dealer license, mail all of the following items to the SCDMV:
- Completed Application for a Dealer or Wholesaler License (SCDMV Form DLA-1).
- If you're a Retail, Motorcycle, or Recreational Vehicle Dealer, you must provide a diagram of the location that shows the building and vehicle display area.
- If you're a Retail Wholesale, Wholesale Motorcycle, or Wholesale Auto Auction Dealers, you must provide a diagram of the structure and office. The diagram must include the address of where records are stored.
- One of the following:
- Bond rider for existing bond on file changing the bond to the new physical address
- Motor Vehicle Dealer and Wholesaler Surety Bond (SCDMV Form DLA-1B) with power of attorney in the name of the business with the new physical address.
- A copy of SC Department of Revenue retail license with the name and new physical address for retail, motorcycle, or recreational vehicle license.
- A copy of city/county business license, or letter stating a license is not required for the trade name (DBA), and new physical address of the business.
All dealers (motor vehicle, motorcycles, recreational vehicle, auction, or wholesale) must provide a city or county business license or letter from the city or county stating a license is not required for the trade name (DBA) and location of dealership. This is a requirement for each initial dealer license application and any application that involves a name or address change. - Current proof of garage liability insurance in the name of the business with the new physical address of the business.
Only required for dealerships with assigned demonstration plates. - Check or money order, made out to the SCDMV, for the applicable dealer license and plate registration fees.
