General Information for Dealers and Providers
The Electronic Vehicle Registration (EVR) Program is a piece of the SCDMV's more broad Electronic Registration and Titling (ERT) program. EVR is only one component of ERT.
The Electronic Registration and Titling (ERT) program allows authorized business partners to apply for titles and registrations on newly purchased vehicles electronically. The ERT system is supplied through a service provider that works with the SCDMV.
This is a two-step process. In step one, the dealer enters all the appropriate information and issues a dealer temporary tag to the buyer on the date of sale. In step two, the dealer finalizes the electronic application for the title and registration. Once this is completed and you submit the paperwork, the SCDMV will mail the vehicle license plate and title to the owner. If there's a lien on the vehicle, the title will go to the lienholder.
Selecting a Service Provider
Beginning January 18, 2024, all dealers must issue traceable temporary license plates at the point of sale. To do this, all dealers must sign on with a service provider to link the dealership and the SCDMV. Dealers may choose what service provider they desire from the list below. The provider will guide you through the application process. Once you sign up and complete your application paperwork, the service provider will submit the application to the SCDMV for approval. Once the application is approved, the service provider will contact you to begin the second step of completing setup and finalize training on its specific system.
If you have questions about the program, please email or contact the SCDMV. If you wish to learn more about EVR requirements, please email the EVRT Coordinator for a copy of the EVR Program Standards.
