You can now include personalized names, messages, or slogans on your favorite university's license plate for your regular vehicles.
Beginning Friday, February 16, 2018*, you now have the option of personalizing three specialty plates. You can request your own message on the 2016 Clemson University National Championship, Clemson University, and University of South Carolina plates.
If you're interested in buying a personalized specialty plate for your vehicle, you must complete the Application for a Personalized Plate (SCDMV Form MV-96) and pay any required fees. Mail the completed form, plus a check or money order made out to the SCDMV, to the following address:
SCDMV
Personalized Plates
PO Box 1498
Blythewood, SC 29016-0008
Your personalization is limited to six characters. You may use any numbers or letters, but the only symbol that you may use is the "&" sign. When you complete the form, you should ask for three choices of personalization. If your first choice is not available, the SCDMV will print the plate with option two. If your first and second choice is not available, the SCDMV will print the plate with option three.
The personalized specialty plates are $100 plus applicable registration fees. Part of that cost goes to the sponsoring organization of the plate you buy.
*A previous version of this story said the Clemson National Championship Personalized Plate was available in August. That has been amended to show it will be available on Friday, February 16, 2018.
