Where to Take Tests
You must take a vision, knowledge, and road test when you apply for an original driver's license or upgrade to a different license. When upgrading, you must pass a vision, knowledge, and road test. However, this doesn't apply to a moped license. You are not required to pass a road test for a moped license.
When you visit your eye care provider, ask him or her to submit your vision screening results electronically to the SCDMV to avoid taking a vision test at the SCDMV.
You may take knowledge tests at any SCDMV branch.
Driver Training and Testing Programs
There are One-Stop Driver Training and Testing Programs where SCDMV-authorized trainers and testers may offer testing services if you're applying for a first-time regular beginner's permit, driver's license, or motorcycle license.
